Wooo Hooooo! I found them! I have been looking for a pair of boots like this for almost a year. I wanted all leather with norwegian welt construction, preferably made in the USA (although these are made in Italy), and I didn't want to spend the $650 starting price or higher for full custom boots. I tried four different pairs of Danners, but the cloth liner (both Gore-tex and non-Gore-tex) always bunched up in the boot and caused severe pressure points for me, so I sent them back one-by-one. I also tried two pairs of traditional leather work boots, but I always got blisters during hikes. I had looked at these Alicos online but passed up on them initially because they weren't USA made. At this point I figured at least they weren't made in the large communist country that's quickly becoming our nation's singular supplier, so I gave in and gave them a try via Sierra Trading Post, and I have to say that these are the best fitting all leather boots I've ever worn, bar none.

I decided to begin the break-in process on a short hiking trip the other day (not quite 6 miles with approx 20lbs. in a pack), and they felt so good it was like they were already broken in. I couldn't believe it. My feet felt great, no pressure points or hot spots, no blisters waiting to heal over the next few days, no sore ankles, no sore arches, nothing. They flexed right where they were supposed to and grabbed the rocks like sticky approach shoes. Amazing. These are plenty flexible for me and I wouldn't want to go lighter for hiking/backpacking (like the Alico model below this one). I am a chronic ankle roller too, and these supported my ankles wonderfully over beds of sharp rocks and root-strewn trails. After the hike I bought some red laces to give them the finishing 'old school' touch, and I can't wait to do a longer backpacking trip in them.

I highly recommend these. I have low arches (almost flat) and fairly short toes, and a medium width foot. These feel like the right size to me, and the padded leather liner hugged my foot like a fine, close-fitting glove. The interior felt great and didn't rub anywhere that I noticed. I wore medium weight merino socks from SmartWool. I used the insoles that came with the boots the first go-round, with a cheap set of cushions over those. I bought some Superfeet Green insoles to put in them for the next trip though, which should be even better. I am so happy I finally found an all leather, stitched sole boot that feels great!

Thank you Alico, and thank you Sierra Trading Post for carrying these at such a great price!!!
