Warm and soft, without bulk

I also just bought some silk base layers at LL Bean, and the Bean ones are noticeably thicker, but cost twice as much. I think that, for the price (with STP coupons - which are always available), these are solid. There are already snags in some places from just one wear (but the Bean ones did this as well), and, while not aesthetically pleasing, they're not unraveling (and when is long underwear aesthetically pleasing anyway). I do worry that they might run (like pantyhose) soon, but hopefully careful washing and wearing will mean I can keep them for a few seasons. Deducted one star for their thinness and my worry they'll fray (I worry far less about the Bean ones, because they are thicker), but so far they're providing warmth without adding bulk, which is exactly what I had hoped.

I'm 5'8" and 127 lbs, mid-30's, and bought a S, which fits with room to spare. I bought the bottoms in M, which are actually more form-fitting on me than the S top! I'm not pear-shaped, I usually just like pants looser as I do yoga and have to stretch a lot for lower back issues, and know from experience that tighter bottoms can rip. So I was surprised that the S top fits as loosely as it does, especially the mid-section. The arms are also a bit short, but that's fine.
