I believe a good pair of shoes has to feel right the minute you put them on. I couldn't quite figure out what was wrong with the interface between these shoes and my feet. Construction was solid, they were attractive, and waterproof (I am told.) But all the walking on wood, tile and carpet at home just didn't make me want to put them on againand again. I had recently had a mild forefoot strain and my Ecco dress shoes felt fine, but upon putting these Hegehogs on, every step felt like the right foot was sprained again, and I just couldn't look forward to a walk-extensive vacation in them. I must need a little less flexibility/more stiffness.

the shoes are very comfortable with great support. I do recommend getting one half size larger if you plan to wear heavy socks. I also put in an arch support. with these changes , they have become mt favorite shoes to wear for walking, hiking etc.

This is my second pair of these shoes, and they are durable, comfortable, and versatile. I use them daily around town as well as on day hikes, for mountain biking, and even some moderate overnights with a backpack, and in all seasons--in the desert and on the snow. So, I imagine they get several hundred miles on them. Never had a problem, the only reason this is my second pair is that with all the daily wear on the first, the tread has a little less grip than a new pair, which is expected normal wear and tear. These have lasted longer and remained in better condition than other trail shoes from other major brands.

  • “My son wears a 10 wide in Asolo boots. Would this shoe be too narrow for his foot? If so, what might you recommend for a day hike/light shoe. He will be hiking for 3.5 weeks in Vermont this summer and needs both a good backpacking/hiking boot AND an in camp/day hike shoe to give his feet a rest from the boots. He tends to prefer minimalist type shoes, but traction and protection from rocks will be important. ”

About The North Face

Believe it or not, The North Face story didn’t begin on a high-altitude ascent. It actually began in San Francisco at less than 200 feet above sea level. However, what started as a neighborhood mountaineering shop has since evolved into an industry-leading, award-winning outdoor equipment and apparel brand. Since its inception more than 40 years ago, The North Face has grown to include clothing and gear designed for nearly every type of adventure, from alpine skiing to backpacking to trail running. Today, The North Face jackets and pants are chosen by world-class athletes, and The North Face rugged boots help carry explorers through the toughest terrain, from the icy slopes of Everest to Utah’s Green River basin.
