Stinky wrinkled curtains

The cotton is fine, the grommets are irregularly spaced and the insulation is somewhat thin, so they are not at all light blocking. That would have been ok for the price, but they off-gas something terrible. Two bottles of Febreze and a week on the close line in sunshine, wind and April showers and they still have some odor. It was so bad when I first hung them in our upstairs bedroom, it was the first thing you noticed when opening the front door. My husband thought the dog had an accident somewhere in our room. I sprayed them again and put them in the dryer with fabric softener and now they are not too bad. It took several weeks to get the smell tolerable. When they were first on the line, you could smell them from our deck.
