Good bang for buck rainwear

I give a full 4 stars for the value here. It's not a top of the line, overly breathable piece of kit..This is a throw it in your pack just in case rain jacket..good for short hikes and walks and stuffed into a daypack. Not lined, so you'll get that vinyl feeling against the skin, as with most light, inexpensive rain jackets. But pockets work well, it has held up well to a bit of a beating, and it looks good. For the price it's a very solid rainjacket. If you need a more technical piece, you will not be happy and really need to be shopping the more expensive stuff. It does make a difference and is worth it if you need a more bomber, breathable piece and depend on it greatly. Fit..I read on here many reviews of it fitting large, very large. I'm often between an M and L in mens's outerwear/jackets. I went down to an M in this, and probably a good call, BUT.....I did not find it overly large..I'd say this fits like a slightly large medium, nothing more. I wouldn't be able to wear this with any kind of thick midlayer like a thick sweatshirt or fleece or the like. With a T or a long sleeve shirt it fits just about right, but no extra room. I could have ordered an L and been okay also I think, maybe even better off if I knew I'd wear more midlayers. As it is, this is most likely a summer type rain jacket for me over some kind of t shirt or baselayer at most, in case of afternoon thundershowers out in the field or whatnot. The other reviews do make me wonder if some were mislabeled or what. I saw one review from a male of similar size to me if not bigger (I'm 5-11, 185) that said his Medium was huge and he would have fit into a small or XS? Not my experience, as this Medium is as small as I could go...so sorry if that's of no help. I got the red color jacket..maybe different colors run differently? Yikes. Anyway, as others have mentioned certainly be aware these are men's sizing, so women will want to go down at least a size maybe two, obviously, to get more what they expect. I had a Red Ledge cheapo rain jacket I bought years ago, and honestly that thing still is tucked away in a pack somewhere just in case. It's beat up and I'm sure some of the seam tape is toast, but it still fills the just in case role admirably. I got this piece as sort of replacement/cohort for that, and it very much looks like it will fit the bill. Happy trails...
