5.0 out of 5 stars. Nice Modern camping lantern

So I will admit that I'm a hopeless romantic when it comes to camping. I reflect on days of yore (last summer) when one would fire up the gas Coleman with the mantles (I know I know they still make them) and the hissing sound of the lantern would fill the night air. However, I've moved on and evolved. This is my first foray into a UCO product (outside of the candle lantern 30 years ago for the AT) and it is an interesting looking lantern. I agree with the other reviewer that it looks so much like a carafe that I half expect to press a button for hot water. The telescoping feature is cool. It puts out a very bright (quiet) light. The lantern glows nicely when the telescoping arm is down. I purchased D battery adapters and use AA rechargeable batteries in it (yeah!). It makes the lantern much lighter and I don't have to buy a bunch of D batteries. Really that was going to be my only hesitancy in purchasing this over their rechargeable one (which is also significantly more expensive). It's a fantastic deal on STP, cool gear addition for the camper. Enlighten yo'self! ;)

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. A solid 4

I have several UCO items in my outdoor gear collection and I am a fan. If not for their name I may not have taken a chance on this lantern. Forget the fact that in it's down position it looks strikingly like a insulated, pump coffee carafe. Adjustable light output works very well. It doesn't get quite dim enough where I would use it for a night-light. I haven't tried the USB output port for charging my phone. I can't see a situation where I would use the colored LEDs. Where this really shines (see what I did there?), and the main reason I purchased, is the telescoping arm. So nice sitting at a table and having a light that shines down from above. Not a harsh LED but a soft, powerful glow. No real world testing at this point so I can't speak to its durability. That's where I'm putting my faith in the UCO name.
