Thou shalt not kill

It's small enough not to be excluded by certain states, and it's large enough to pack a wallop several times over, abstemiously used. Instant attitude adjustment. Some of these potentially dangerous animals are on the endangered species list. It wouldn't do to kill them. On the other hand, one s... Read More

  • Mighty Spray
Verified Buyer Reviewed by PQHiker from San Diego on Tuesday, May 29, 2018
I'm rating this product based on the force of the spray and ease of removing the cap. Tested it before our hiking trip to Yosemite (luckily we did not encounter bears on this trip). The cap was easy to remove and spray reached a pretty long distance which I think are top must have requirements for this product.

I purchased a couple of these eight years ago. Though I've never had a reason to discharge them, I have tested them. they project a strong mist about 20' out. STP is selling these with a nylon holster for less than just the can at our local Cabelas. Thanks, STP :-)

I don't need to worry about grizzlies but I'm glad I have this for my heavily wooded area. Hope never need to use it.

I bought it for a hike in Pisgah, could hear bears nearby around one mile in. I had it attached to my shoulder strap and generally came off quick. Only thing I'd change is maybe put a molle clip on the soft carrier, as my pack didn't have any other way to connect it but a rubber strap

  • “Can the hip holster be attached to my back pack straps for easy access while trail riding .”
Asked by Wilbur from New Jersey on 8/18/2017 2:51:33 PM
    • Technically, it can be attached to a backpack, but it is not advisable as it would not be readily accessible in case of a bear attack. It is easily attached to a belt and could be retrieved quickly.
Answered on 8/18/2017 5:14:54 PM by NMMom from New Mexico
    • yes it can however the loop that the belt goes through is fairly snug.
Answered on 8/18/2017 6:24:40 PM by Largeone from Kalispell mt
    • These holsters are made for belt carry. So you would have to get another small strap or two to attach it to your pack. i have seen holsters for pack straps and bikes at Sportsmans Warehouse. Other outdooor supply places should have them also.

  • “Will this product work with mountain lions?”
Asked by Casual hiker from California on 7/29/2017 7:16:33 PM
    • Cats do have sensitive noses, so it should work on them. However, they are much quicker and are stealth hunters, so it would be much more difficult to be able to use.

Asked by OMSDDS from NY on 3/8/2016 2:45:42 PM

    • I didn't see a exploration date on the can. I imagine it's a closeout because they may be changing models or vendors.

    • Closeouts: may be last year's model or color, yet always first hand quality.

    • It's expiration date is 2022 and if it's a close out it certainly doesn't look like it. My advice, take the necessary precautions, don't assume a can of bear spray gives you the freedom to go stomping around bear country without some type of high caliber side arm!
