This stuff has a high break strength. And for the price it cannot be beat for quality and value. I have brought many steelhead in on this stuff with no worries.

Question & Answer

    • All of the manufacturers "test" their products and give you the results of their test. This company believes that this is a reasonable analysis of the strength of this product. You may want to look at the tippet shootout that was recently published in Flyfisherman Magazine. Umpqua's tippet did not fair well given the testing method they used. I have used a lot of their tippet over the years with good luck ... mostly their nylon. I now only use Trouthunter tippet for smaller flouro (5X and 6X) because it seems so strong compared to other brands. Seguar is also very good flouro. In the bigger sizes (0X and 1X) we don't have too much to worry about here in CO but in other places the lower rating may give you problems. I have used some of the tippet you're asking about to build leaders and it has been fine for use here in Colorado.

    • Every brand is diffrent. I used the 8lb all winter steelheading and it held up nicely.. This is one of the best deals around.

About Umpqua Feather Merchants

Dennis Black, the founder of Umpqua Feather Merchants, realized way back in 1972 that demand for his expertly tied fishing flies would quickly surpass his ability to create them in sufficient supply. After enlisting some of the best fly-tiers in the industry to help set Umpqua flies’ standard of excellence, Black established the first of five separate fly-tying factories with a focus on producing the best flies constructed using top-tier materials. Today, Umpqua now has factories in Sri Lanka and Thailand, both faithfully reproducing time-tested patterns and introducing promising new patterns year after year. When you fish with Umpqua flies, you’re fishing with one of the best names in the industry.
