This backpack was just the right size for my trip. I did not need to take a sleeping bag or roll, but I did take a 3-day trip and used it as my luggage. It had plenty of room for my clothes, a pair of cowboy boots, flip flops, and my toiletries. And because I took it on a flight, I didn't even use any of the outer stuff pockets. It was comfortable on my 3-mile walk to my destination. And...I loved the color (red)

I haven't had an opportunity to use the pack yet, but I'm happy with the features and construction although the hip belt pockets seem too small and the shoudler straps seem narrow. This is my second order for the Brenta 40..............first time I was shipped the Brenta 30, which I still have, but may return now that I have what I originally wanted. They both appear to be quality packs with some nice features at a good price. iI'm looking forward to actual use in Utah and AZ in Sept.............the air space between my back and the pack should be a real boon in warm weather hiking.

Only had this a few weeks. As with any pack I may grow to love it but for now I like it a lot but still have a few nits. It is fairly light and the pack seems very well made. It's spacious inside especially if you open up the divider between the top and bottom. You can keep the divider zipped in place and use zipper access to the bottom section. This is where a larger pack might hold a sleeping bag. I don't think most sleeping bags would fit in this section of this pack. Mine would take a lot of stuffing and I'm not sure I'd be comfortable putting that much pressure on the zipper of the divider. The hip belt pockets are small. I could get an old iPhone 4s in there but I doubt you'd fit a 6. Still with something hard in the hip belt pocket, it makes the belt uncomfortable and stiff in that section. I'd suggest keys or soft snacks. There's a great rain cover in its own pocket. Really nice. The outer lid pocket zipper wraps around the lid on the edges making it harder to fully close with one hand. There is also no flap for the zipper so it's very exposed to rain when you're not using the rain cover. There are 2 sets of side compression straps which come in handy when the pack isn't full. I haven't fully adapted to the suspension yet. The shoulder straps have normal adjustments plus a system that lets you adapt them to different torso sizes. Haven't gotten this right yet. They are lightly padded but you will feel them with heavy loads. There is another system that allows you to flex the frame away from your back on hot days. It is a neat idea. I can't say if works yet. Needs more hot weather testing. My biggest issue is a small one but one that comes into play all the time. The lid is closed by straps that extend all the way to t he bottom of the pack. This allows for a lot of adjustment but it also means that the long straps flop down every time you open the lid. When it's time to pack up again you need to find and reach for these straps. Not the biggest deal but I'd rather have those straps anchored a little closer to where they need to be to close up the pack.

I was able to pack all my gear and food for a three day backpack in the sawtooths without lashing anything to outside of the pack. The sleeping bag compartment was a tough fit for my down bag which stuffs to bowling ball size but i put it in last instead of first. My favorite is the outside stretchy mesh stuff pocket. Holds a lot and didn't rip easily even tho I was carrying pointy stuff in it. Easily transfers weight of my 35lb pack to hips and my shoulders didn't get tired on 8 mile hike.

I bought this backpack for my boyfriend and he absolutely loves it. He hasn't used it yet (we're waiting for warmer weather) but he likes that it's light weight, water proof and has a rain guard. There's plenty of room to pack enough things for a night and two days maybe 3. It's good quality and should last a long time.
