  • The Park is famous for its giant trees. Within the park boundaries you'll find 5 out of the 10 largest trees in the world.

  • This National Park is the second-oldest national park in the United States. It was created by Congress on September 25, 1890. Only Yellowstone National Park, created in 1872, is older.

  • The park elevation varies by nearly 13,000 feet and includes the highest point in the contiguous 48 United States.

  • There is a giant granite dome located within the park. The Civilian Conservation Corps cut a 400 step staircase into the rock in the 1930s. This staircase is listed on the national register of historic places. (Hint: this is not Half Dome)

  • Thru-hikers pass though this national park while hiking on the Pacific Crest Trail or the John Muir Trail.
