  • Reviewed by Walk-Over Says I'm Wearing Them Wrong from Philadelphia on Saturday, July 25, 2015
Similar to another owner's experience, my shoes' soles got wet in the rain and separated as well as the sole shrank. The defect only impacted the right shoe. The loafers were well taken care of similar to my Carmina, Vass, Scarpe di Bianco, and Allen Edmonds shoes, worn only about 15 times, and had a sole protector. Walk-Over did not respond to emails or calls initially. I contacted their outsourced repair facility, Resole America, which through their own admission told me about the frequency of Walk-Over shoes with shrinking sole problems. Through Resole America I was contacted by a Walk-Over representative. Walk-Over was willing to cover only half the cost of a resole ($85) but did not admit problem with the shoes or wanted to discuss anything related to quality. They only wanted to discuss the warranty policy and how having a sole protector added to the shoe voided the warranty. Shoe quality was not a concern for them. From Walk-Over's perspective their shoes are not suitable for gluing a thin rubber layer on the soles.

Walk-Over is a brand only company and does not make their own shoes. They outsource their manufacturing and warranty repair to other companies. If you do not care for quality shoes that you enjoy for years with only regular maintenance, Walk-Over may be the brand for you. Otherwise I would recommend another brand, at least at their retail price, such as Allen Edmonds or Rancourt. These other companies understand quality and back up their products.

I have seldom had problems with products bought on Sierra Trading Post. But this product is horrible. First, the good - appearance, fit, Made in America (yea!), The bad and it is big - the sole. What happened is that the sole got wet (I was walking through the rain). There are two layers to the sole. The two layers separated from each other and then proceeded to curl at the edges. Now, these shoes are unusable. I will have to take them into a cobbler and see if they can be saved. I have worn leather soled shoes and I have worn them through rain. For example, I have Trickers - great shoes. These shoes are not worth the money - save yourself the grief and AVOID them.

About Walk-Over

The history of Walk-Over shoes dates back to 1758, when a young man named Levi Keith began making shoes in his home in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Levi passed his trade down to his son Benjamin, who then passed the trade on to his son. By the mid-1870s, Levi’s great-great grandson George Keith had expanded the family business into a full-fledged footwear company with 10 employees. Thanks to the Keith family’s longstanding dedication to crafting incredible products, the Walk-Over footwear company continued to grow. By 1920, Walk-Over boots and shoes were available in more than 100 countries around the globe. Today, with more than 250 years of incredible heritage and dedication to the craft, Walk-Over shoes and boots are still among the very best.
