Reviewed by Londo Mollari from Centauri Prime on Monday, September 11, 2017If you want to do a little price shopping or just look for reviews, Wenger's model number for this watch is 01.0411.124.
Wenger 01.0411.124 is an inexpensive women's watch with a Ronda 515 quartz movement, a repairable 1 jewel metal movement made in Switzerland and assembled there or in Asia. It is not Ronda's best but it is good enough for most. It uses a 371 button battery which is good (they claim) for 45 months, and Ronda rates its accuracy at -10/+20 seconds per month. Accuracy is par for the course, battery life is a little better.
This watch has a 316L stainless steel case and screw-in case back. All the case's outer surfaces have a brushed finish and the case back is brightly polished. The case is 31mm wide (33mm including the crown) and 9mm thick. It has standard lugs for a 16mm strap or bracelet, and it measures 33mm lug-to-lug. To get a rough idea how large or small it would look on you, put a metric ruler across the back of your wrist and measure 33mm.
I opened the case to take a look inside and found everything clean, well secured and well machined. Of course the rubber O-ring sealing gasket was bone dry, and I lubricated it with a tiny dab of Trident silicone grease before I closed the case. You can buy a 2 oz. jar of Trident at any dive shop. It will get you through a lifetime of watch battery replacements, and it's good for your scuba gear too.
The colors of the case, dial and hands are accurately represented in STP's photographs. I charged this watch under a UV lamp to test its luminous paint. The dial's numbers and markers faded after a few seconds, while the hour and minute hands glowed for 10–15 minutes. Not a deal breaker for me, but if you must have a watch you can read in the dark, this one is not the watch for you.
Wenger rates this watch's water resistance at "30 meters." Do not imagine that means you could wear it on a 100 foot scuba dive. "30 meters" is advertising lingo for 3 atmospheres. The seals on this watch are designed to withstand 3 atmospheres pressure, and one watch out of every X number is pulled off the assembly line and pressure tested at 3 atmospheres. To you, the user, 3 ATM water resistance means you can leave your watch on the bathroom vanity while you shower or wear it at the gym while you work up a good sweat without fogging the crystal. It will survive a spilled drink and hand washing, but you had better take it off for dish washing. And if you're caught on the golf course in a driving rain, it might survive that or it might not: I would take it off and put it in my pocket. 3 ATM is the industry standard WR for dress watches.
The strap is wearable and if you like the way it looks, you could wear it for a year or two before it wears out. Like most inexpensive watches, this one looks better on an aftermarket strap. Hadley Roma makes some inexpensive leather straps in 16mm: look for MS714, MS788 and MS881.
What do I like about this watch? If you've been wearing traditional small women's watches and find that you now need reading glasses to read them, this watch is 10-20% larger and that may help. But the best thing about it is the sapphire crystal. Synthetic sapphire crystals are highly scratch resistant, and they are seldom found in watches that sell for less than $120. If you have an STP coupon to buy this Wenger watch for under $40, that makes it quite a bargain if it meets your other requirements.
