Reviewed by Forsythia from CT on Tuesday, October 1, 2013Love this tent Lots of pockets for storage Good vestibule space Roomy for 2 as it can easily fit two sleeping pads with a little wiggle room to spare I wouldn't call it an easy set up The instructions were poor and of course it has 5 poles instead of 3 but overall once set up next time will be easier Much easier with 2 people I let it air out over night as the fly especially had a strong chemical smell and left residue on my hands
Reviewed by ipartner48 from Calgary, Alberta on Saturday, August 17, 2013Update - just came back from 4 nights in the Mountains. This is the first time I have owned a 4 season tent - it is definitely heavier then 3 season tents and rightfully so - this tent is meant to handle the worst of conditions. Easy to set up - cool in the mountains but with everything zipped up, we were warm inside. And to my surprise, no condensation - even after it rained all night. This tent is labelled as a 2 person tent but in reality, it's more like a 2 1/2 person - very roomy plus you get the feeling of spaciousness. So far, I am very happy with the purchase of this tent
Reviewed by ipartner48 from Calgary, Alberta on Thursday, August 1, 2013When I set this tent up, I was blown away by it's features. I also have a North Face Mountain 25 which was worth almost twice as much. When I set both of these up to compare, the Wenger wins in most categories. Weight is about the same BUT:
- huge interior ( 38 sq ft vs 32)
- awesome headroom ( 49" vs 41")
- packs smaller (21" vs 24")
- large vestibules (total of 16 sq ft vs 11)
Numbers speak for themselves. Here's your chance to buy an amazing 4 season tent for an amazing price (AND it includes the footprint)
Reviewed by WA Kayaker & Hiker from Washington State on Sunday, July 28, 2013Set up the Rothorn 2 in the yard and hit it with the garden hose from every angle for 10min. Not a drop leaked in. Waterproof right out of the box.
Quality materials and workmanship- heavy reinforcement built to withstand high winds. You could take this tent for some harsh Mountaineering.
The floor dimensions listed in the specs for this tent are erroneous. Actual measured inside floor dimensions of the Rothorn 2 sent to me are:
80inch x 58inch x 46inch high, not the 92inch x 60inch x 49inch claimed by Wenger.
The tents weight is exactly as claimed- my post office certified scale read: 9.2-lb.
Overall, this tent is a good choice, roomy enough to comfortably fit two persons, and unbeatable for the SierraTradingPost price. Beware the dimensions though- I'm 6ft 4inch tall and I barely fit in the tent laying down.
Reviewed by Nanook from TN on Friday, June 21, 2013I purchased a Rothorn 2 for a 2 week stay in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. My old tent was a 37 yr old V25 dome tent that the urethane waterproofing coating was becoming compromised. I was looking for a similar replacement in design and function. The Rothorn 2 is a narrow dome but enough room for 2 unlike some 2 man tents that are sized for 2 children.
The tent arrived and was setup to find that the rain fly was missing and it took a week with multiple daily phone calls to finally receive the missing fly. The tent is a little on the heavy side for a 2 person, but keep in mind that it is a 4 season tent and built to take a beating. As a canoe trip tent, my concern was only for the long portages between lakes.
After paddling and 2 portages into the lake we setup camp in time for a long drenching rain. The Rothorn 2 was solid and dry. The bugs, yes, lots of bugs were kept out except when the screen doors were used to enter or exit. The side pockets and the top pockets were handy to keep the tent organized. The rain fly clips into the tent at strategic locations to increase the sturdiness of the structure. This concept would prove durable in high wind conditions. There are 2 colours available, red and yellow. I chose red for cooler climates and to help evaporate any condensation build up when the sun comes up, I feel the yellow colour would be more appropriate for warmer climates to help prevent overheating in mid day sun. At night the tent stayed 10-15 F warmer than the outside temp when buttoned up.
The tent assembly is only supplied with enough ground stakes for the tent perimeter and rain fly vestibule. They are not provided for the guy ropes to secure the rain fly for windy conditions. If you want to fully deploy the tent for windy conditions, you will need additional stakes. For the price and reputation of the company this is my only negative comment.

The fly has a clear heavy plastic window that is welded (bonded) to the fly fabric. It cannot be opened. It is at the front of the vestibule.
A welded window is a "peek-a-boo" window (usually in the fly) to look out of and see what's going on outside ie.the weather, pack of wolves, etc.
It is melted onto the fabric. Unfortunately I have this tent and the window has completely detached making tent worthless until I can fix it somehow
