Although I haven't had the opportunity to fully test this reel out, its appearance and the initial impression it gives it that of a reel costing up to 10 times as much.

Appears to be anodized stamped aluminum. Drag is fine. Looks good too. Only problem I had was that all the screws came loose. I had to finally put loctite on them. BTW, Basspro sells the same reel for $30 branded as Hobbs River Intruder.

Looks good. Large arbor holds plenty of line and backing. Smooth retrieve. Drag is sub standard. Line does not come off smoothly. Suspect drag washer is not uniform thickness. Attempted to access the washer but the retaining screw was torqued on too tight and alloy was too soft to loosen screw without stripping the head. Will keep but will always be disappointed.

Not as well made as the low end Ross reel. Could use a bit more final finishing. I probably could do this with a model sand blaster, but why?...lol

  • “Does this have drag?”
Asked by Milligin737 from Seattle on 7/6/2016 9:28:09 AM
    • Yes is does have a drag.
The big knob in the picture is the drag.
It is cast aluminum and a bit rough in the machining. There are also some rough edges that 'could' potentially cut you line.
If you don't mind doing some 'clean-up' of those sharp edges its not a bad reel for the price.
