I will be going out of the country during a monsoon season so I needed a light rain jacket that would for air flow in humid rainy weather. I love this jacket and it has so many adjustable parts to it: the hood, sleeves etc. I have yet to figure out how it folds into itself or whether it was supposed... Read More

I was a little bit wary to order this jacket, because my primary need was to stay dry....and only read a couple of dryness posts on the reviews....but had looked around at other name brand "waterproof" jackets and knew which features were needed to actually keep you dry. I also needed something lightweight (check), vented (check), and stylish (check). After using it for an hour in pouring rain, the dry feature definitely gets five stars! It was about 75 degrees out, and I was walking a brisk pace. I didn't get wet underneath the jacket and didn't get that suffocated sweat from plastic. The vented area kept me cool....and the hood was the perfect design for rain....it didn't drip water off the front, onto your face. There is a velcro feature on the back of the hood for different lengths of fit. Letting it all the way loose allows the hood to come over your face for heavy rain. Pulling the slack is for light rain yet still keeping your face dry.
The velcro around the wrists, taped seams throughout the jacket interior, velcro + zipper front, drawstring hoodie, and zipper pockets were all equally helpful and allowed me to stay perfectly dry for four miles of rain.

Old fashioned sticky slimy feel to the inside of the fabric. Also pretty tight for size. Would have sent it back if I lived in the 48.

Love this jacket. It's constructed from light weight, yet durable material. It stows well in a back pack or a medium sized purse. It's cut well for the body with attention to detail: draw string at bottom to keep wind and rain out, and at cuffs with adjustable velcro. Zipper and snaps give you a choice in closures. Not water proof, but water resistant, good for short walks in the rain, but not for several hours of hiking in a deluge. Great Price. The best part is that I love the color, Blue Radiance.

Yes, it's very light to pack away. Haven't tried it in a heavy rain yet, so don't know how waterproof it is.

The bright turquoise color is the the only reason why I kept this jacket, but it is NOT waterproof in the least - especially after fifteen minutes of wear in the rain. The first time I ever wore this jacket out, I was hiking in the rain for 3 hours in Hong Kong. It was great for the first 15 minutes and photographs beautifully against the lush green jungles of Hong Kong, but after continued wear, I was soaked to the bone before we were even halfway through our hike! I was more drenched than I've ever been in my life and I was shivering with cold. I've worn this jacket many more times after that hike in the hopes that the next time I wore it out it would perform like a rain jacket should, but each time, I ALWAYS got soaked. I studied other people's rain jackets on a recent trip to Alaska and watched how water would bead and roll off effortlessly off their jackets. This jacket SOAKS WATER IN. You can tell it does because the fabric actually changes from a vibrant turqouise to a bolder shade of cyan. Extremely disappointed that this "waterproof rain jacket" if not waterproof in the rain at all.

  • “The 'silver grey' color looks tan on the website - what color is it really???”
Asked by Patty Gatta from New York on 6/7/2016 7:32:24 PM
    • Well, it isn't silver for sure. It is hard to describe, very light, neutral oatmeal with a bit of pearl. Not beige nor gray.

    • I ordered the jacket in purple rain and it looks like the color on the website. I looked at the silver grey and it does look tan. I think it would be the same when you go it in.

    • I am sorry I did not get the silver grey. I chose the vivid green which is quite nice.

  • “Is it breathable do I don't sweat when it's on?
Asked by Peg from Ohio on 5/1/2016 9:06:01 AM
    • No, unfortunately it's not breathable. But at this price point, you can't expect more than rain and wind protection.

    • I am very comfortable in it. I have used to a s a jacket when I get cold in restaurants. It has a open panel in he back that allows air to flow through it. If you wore it in the rain when it was warm you probably would not sweat. It is not extremely breathable, but it does keep you dry and is very lightweight. If I wore it in full sun on a hot day I would sweat.
Answered on 5/1/2016 9:33:16 AM by Active Grammy from Augusta GA
    • Hi, it's somewhat breathable, but I used it for warmth over layers so it's hard for me to remember. The fabric on the arm tore on something sharp in the woods, so I would say it's fairly breathable but not that durable in the woods. Overall not a bad jacket for the price I'd say: extremely light and roomy though the hood is a little short on top.

    • It's really muggy here, now and I've worn it a few times. I haven't had any trouble with sweating, but I'm not running, hiking or exerting much energy. It has a Teflon water repellent and back vents, so it may be just right for high energy rain activities.

    • Hi Peg. Sorry it has taken me so long to answer. The jacket is not perfectly breathable. It is coated on the inside. I don't sweat a lot, so it is perfect for me. I actually own 4 of them in different colors. My draw to this jacket was that it was packable. I ordered a size larger than I wear so I could put a lightweight fleece jacket underneath for cooler weather. This worked perfectly for me on Cadillac Mountain in Maine last fall.

Have you tried calling The North Face company? I am sure that The North Face company will either have the replacement piece or can at least lead you to where the replacement pieces can be purchased. If not, maybe the jacket piece was defective and The North Face company might be willing to compensate you with a new jacket. That's about the only thing that I feel might be worth trying.
      Hope I was helpful.
      Thank you.

      Hi there,
When I clicked on the image to see if my size was available it showed the exact jacket image that I received in my order. I was really happy with it in fact it had more things on it that I did not expect such as really deep pockets as well as nice deep inside pockets. The jacket looks awesome on me and I have received many compliments. It is so comfortable to use for layering with other garments and great for windy and rainy days. To me, the jacket looks on me exactly the way it looks on the model. Thank you. Hope this helps.

    • The jacket design that you would be getting is the one that is on the model rather than the stand alone design. This is a very nice design and a wonderfully light and easy to pack rain jacket not to mention it's excellent rain protection. I would highly recommend this rain jacket.

    • It's smooth all the way down the front with a drawstring casement at the bottom. If you're looking at the catalog, the blue display is accurate, as is the red one on the model. I think the green jack must have a "wrinkle" that makes it look like a seam about 2 inches from the bottom of the jacket, which it does not have. Hope this is helpful! Ps. I love this jacket, but it doesn't 'breath' in the arm area. If you're cycling, you'll need to wear something that wicks underneath or you'll have very moist arms when you stop.

    • I have this jacket in blue, and there is no seam across the lower part, no drawstring either. The inside seams are all taped and it is waterproof, very light (packs in its own pocket), and vented. I really like it. Hope this helps.

    • My mistake! There is a drawstring in the very bottom hem around the hips! Sorry about that.

    • My jacket is straight all the way down with a drawstring at the very bottom. It does not have a seam for the drawstring about 2 inches before the bottom as this picture of the gray jacket shows.

    • The jacket that I purchased there is a draw sting on the bottom of it. I have not used it. This jacket is very thin and extremely waterproof. It has two inside pockets that are a good size and two hand pockets with zippers.
