Perfect Pants - Too tight in the posterior

I purchased these for my 12 year old son. We are trekking through Scandinavia this spring and space is limited. We wanted shorts for the warm mid day sun and pants for the cool evenings. He has had Columbia zip offs before and really enjoyed them (as long as someone kept up with the lower half after it was removed. One looks just a bit odd with one pant leg zipped on.). When they were first removed from the packaging, I thought that they were of much better construction and style than much more expensive pants manufactured by other brands. The shorts portion was not too long or too short (which is a typical problem with some of these styles.) I figured he would not look like he was wearing capris or the Clark Griswold, Wally World shorts. They even had a cool hem at the cuff that would allow the pant to be cinched and buttoned (not so much that it appeared that he had the '90s tight roll going on). So with this great wealth of excitement and anticipation I made him slip them on. Perfect length, perfect style, perfect shorts length, then there was the rear and inseam. It was the proverbial "infinity wedge". No manner of pulling, stretching or repositioning was going to solve this problem. So with a heavy heart we had to say goodbye to what was otherwise the perfect pant. I like to say that he is just has muscular glutes from all of his athletic endeavors (by no means is he overweight, he is a rail) but it is possible that it is genetics (on his mother's side).
