a product with two sides

Good side and bad side, that is. Both my sister and I have used this product for quite some time for walking our dogs during the Michigan winter. Although she has utilized them more often and more consistently than I, our evaluations are the same. On the pro side, the product does exactly what it is supposed to do--improve traction in slippery conditions. Con is that it wears out--or, more commonly, breaks down--too easily, especially the "springs" surrounding the rubber treads. One can patch up a broken spring using a couple of needle-nosed pliers even as one wishes the apparatus was a bit more heavy-duty. (Of course that would make the product more difficult to take on or off, a process which must be difficult anyway or else the treads would not remain securely attached to one's boots.) So there you have it--a product deserving of five stars for effectiveness but only three stars for longevity (at least, in my opinion). If in doubt, give Yaktrax a try. You cannot beat STP on price or on integrity. If you do not like what you see upon opening the box, STP will take back your purchase via the return label enclosed with your order for a fraction of the cost you would pay to ship it yourself. I know whereof I speak from many decades of business with STP.
