I love these, and own several pairs (mostly so I can loan to friends.) They are very lightweight, so you can have them in your pack when you don't know if you'll need additional traction. The traction bump they provide is adequate; certainly not as good as full on crampons or some more aggressive products like microspikes. However, they work well enough that I felt comfortable enough to use them on a glacier in Norway, and they performed fine with careful foot placements.
