I have normal legs, nothing special going on. The larger size, was the same, very tight around the calves. I had some other ladies I work with try them on, as I was just going to give them away for free, and they all had the same problem. Super cute boot and sturdy, but the design is flawed.

It is a shorter fitting 10; if you are close to 10.5 don't try it. However it is very comfortable and attractive. I have normal size calves, fairly muscular, and these boots are easy off and easy on for me.
You can dress them up or down. -

I have a high arch and the top of the boot isn't high enough to accommodate my foot comfortably. We'll see if the next size up does the trick. Thanks, Sierra Trading Post!

I wear a size 9 normally, which is what I ordered. They were very snug with ankle socks, and wouldn't have fit with a pair of thicker socks, which i would probably have worn with the boots in colder weather. Also, I have very thin calves and these boots were very snug when i tried them on with jeans. So basically, these boots would have been great if i was wearing them with shorts and no socks, and that's not very useful to me, so I had to return them.

They are heavy duty and the design is very pretty. For her, they ran a bit small so we are exchanging them for the next size. But I would highly recommend these boots.
