5.0 out of 5 stars. Does what it's supposed to do.

I used this while staying in a remote cabin in the mountains and used it later back at home. It worked flawlessly. The user instructions are easy to follow. Cleaning the grounds out can be a minor problem, but not too hard. It makes 16 ounces at a time, so you could use this for multi-person backpacking. It would be difficult to justify the weight for solo backpacking. The heating cup heats up fairly quickly, either on a camp stove or a regular gas range top, just adjust the flame so it just covers the bottom and doesn't lick up to the handles. You could damage the silicone handle sleeves. Don't know about using it with electric or induction cooktops. Be careful not to burn yourself when handling the heating cup as it is not insulated (except for the silicone handle sleeves). Assemble the unit with care, being sure to lock the coffee chamber to the heating cup to prevent leaks. The insulated mug works very well. It keeps your coffee hot a long time and has a large base to make it more stable. I agree with the reviewer who said not to use too fine of grind. Also, when putting the ground coffee in, it's best to do that either over a paper or something, as the holes that face the heating cup are considerably larger than the filter screen side and some of your ground coffee will undoubtedly come through when filling. Brunton recommends starting with 5 tablespoons. 4-5 tablespoons of ground coffee seems about right for my tastes. It part, the amount depends on the type of coffee and how finely it's ground. One tip, if you are making another round, be sure to clean the ground coffee chamber well and dry off or blow through the filter screen. Sinces it's such a fine mesh, moisture can block the flow-through design and cause it to not work right. Best camp coffee I've ever made!

this is very useful to have when car camping, otherwise it's too bulky and not worth carrying it around.
easy to use, good quality, works well. it takes a little longer than expected to make one cup of coffee (almost 10 mins). but then again, i might be using the wrong ground coffee size

We bought 2 of these units, one for backpacking and the other for our sailboat. But they are too large and bulky for either use. We'll stick to our proven way - Melitta one and a cup.

The idea / engineering is good with emphasis on ease of use, produing a couple cups of coffee or tea right in the wide bottom cup. You won't be taking this backpacking. It's too heavy and bulky but will work well for car camping and that is how I would reccommend it.
