The leather is thick but flexible. The soles are very flexible so they seem to move with you, not like stiff boots of today. My new favorite boots.

There is no seal, the tongue of the boot is detached to the rest of it so snow/water would be free to infiltrate even if waterproofed. Think of these as shoes with a very high top, they are cool, I'm just cautioning you lest you confuse these with some of Sorel's other serious snow and nasty conditions footwear - these ChugALugs are not that! Other than that, I do wish they were still made in Canada like they used to be (instead of China), and mine came with a build quality issue, just sent back - but I am looking forward to getting my replacement pair back from STP.
