5.0 out of 5 stars. Better than 100% Merino!
Reviewed by Jim from Long Beach on Thursday, December 8, 2011
I have 8 of these shirts and just ordered two more!
Size: Medium seems more like a Large. I suggest ordering one size smaller than normal.
Quality: Fabric seems fine, but lots of stray threads from the sewing. Cut is more like an undershirt than a fashion t-shirt.

Comfort/performance: I switched to 100% Merino base layer shirts a few years ago. I wear them as undershirts at work, sleep shirts at night, and baselayer for all-season outdoor activities. I like the comfort, wide temperature range, ability to buffer moisture, and lack of stink. Unfortunately merino does hold more moisture than synthetics and can be a bit clammy when going from sweaty exercise to rest (whether it's topping out on a climb or riding my bike to work then sitting in a meeting). The Wickers 50/50 blend seems like a perfect combination of wool and synthetic. (Viscose might be an untapped performance wear fabric)

The fabric is thicker than lightweight merino wool. I would guess it is similar to 220 gram per square meter merino. The extra thickness seems good- against a backpack or business shirt it seems to pass moisture better but doesn't feel hot.

Fabric does seem a bit fragile, but no more than merino. These are definitely not going to hold up as outerwear if you walk through brush. I machine wash in a lingerie bag then hang to dry and they haven't shown any wear from 5 months of that.

A note on fabric- the cream color seems to be a somewhat thicker, more luxurious fabric than the others. It's fine as a T-shirt in public where a similar color/weight merino garment would be a bit too transparent.

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Interesting blend of wool and rayon, a bit big

I'm 6'1" with an athletic build and medium t-shirts are usually just right. This one is a bit baggy and long, especially for a base layer. The material is interesting though. It is more of a medium weight fabric than I expected. Overall I'm happy with it given the price paid, but I prefer my other 100% wool shirts that are thinner and cut better.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. runs big

I was happy with this shirt because of how softy it was and for the price it was unbeatable, however I am always a medium in shirt size and this was big. It was big in the chest and torso area. Also being really stretchy. I might buy another one in small but I used my credit towards new boots. If you like form fitting order a size small, if you like baggy buy your size. 5'11" 145lbs and a medium was baggy.

Got this for 15, Very happy and well worth it. It was REALLY baggy, but because it's wool I'm sure if it ever ends up in the drier I will be happy it was there. I'd order a size down next time if its being used as a base layer. I can puff it out about twice my size, its very stretchy. Overall I love it though, I'm sure its bagginess is just going to be of benefit in the long run as it slowly shrinks, and it's a little extra long compared to other shirts which means it tucks in well into your pants, which I like.

A comfortable and warm shirt. Cheap also. Hard to find wool at this price
  • 1.0 out of 5 stars. Poor quality, seams fell apart quickly.

The price is right but the quality is poor. Ordered two, washed on gentle, and both had seams come apart immediately. I would avoid these even if you're on the budget and love wool, like me.
