Danner Quarry Gore-Tex® Work Boots - Waterproof, Leather (For Men)

I've had these boots for about 2 weeks, so this is really just a preliminary review. If I remember I'll come back and write some more in a few months.

My background: work outdoors, hiking 1-5 miles/day on rough terrain in all weather.

Pros: Sturdy, made in USA, big lugs on the solid Vibram outsole. Goodyear welt for re-working if they end up going the distance. Heavily padded and reinforced ankle support. Easy to use eye stays. Very even color and the leather seems durable (we'll see in the long-run). Workmanship is solid, no loose threads hanging out or poorly trimmed leather.

Cons: Kind of long break in period (2 weeks into daily wear and I'm still working on them). Ankle support can feel over-padded. Seems to be slightly small-to size, but could be a consequence of a longer than usual break-in period.

Conclusion: Solid, chunky boot if that's what you're looking for. For the price, up there with other ready-to-go USA made boots. Be prepared to work for your break in, like an old-school baseball glove.

I haven't had these long enough to Know about their longevity, but I suspect they will wear strong and long. When new, lace them up tight from the toe, less so around the ankle. They will mold nicely this way. I normally buy a 12D by default, but my foot is wide and pretty meaty, so I took a bit of a gamble on these 12EE's. With heavy weight socks, they are excellent for me. Length is as expected. You need some beef to fill these 2E's - fair warning.

Leather is thick but flexible. Stitching and workmanship throughout - impressive.

BTW, If you've seen these elsewhere and wondered, where's the pinking shears zigzag edged leather that extends from the bottom of the laces? This STP offering includes them, just not pictured. They are optional in use, - an extra little layer of leather you can put beneath the first four lace crosses.. or not.

Danner makes a number of great boots and these are one of them. Sturdy and comfortable after a few weeks of breaking in. Made in the USA is great, thanks Danner. These seem like they will last a long time.

Heavy duty, comfortable right out of the box, made in the US. I have a wide foot - usually wear 10 EEE - these 10 EE's have a very wide toe box comfortable with heavy socks. Vibram sole is nice and stiff - I have mid-foot arthritis so I need a stiff boot - can wear these all day on concrete or in the woods. Only complaint someone might have - they are heavy - but not an issue for me.

We found the boots to run almost a whole size small, but once we got the larger size (he is a 10 1/2 reg. , we ended up with an 11 1/2 reg.) they are perfection. We have always always always owned and trusted Danners. We only purchase the stitchdown boots and they last forever. We purchase hiking boots and field boots and work boots, mens and womens. The styles are the same today as they were 25 years ago when we first bought them for a hiking trip. SMART! DON'T FIX WHAT IS NOT BROKEN! We still own and use the original boots, (and have not had to resole them yet) but we purchase new ones because we have favorites for full pack hikes, day hikes, hunting, and hanging out on the farm! We have insulated and non insulated ones! We would NEVER purchase any boot that is not stitched down again, as they just do not last. Just when they are broken in, the upper falls off of the sole! what is that about! If you ever had great boots, you just will pay the cost to have them there for you when you need them! Danners are the best and these are now sitting next to all the others, give them a year and they will look well worn like the others!
