5.0 out of 5 stars. Good brim size

Bought it to get sun pro for high country and ocean.
Since previous buyers felt it was sized too small, I bought the 2xl for my second-largest size head. It fits well although a quarter size smaller is about right - but see below.

The brim is broad, and although it flips up going into the wind, will keep you sheltered as well as a cowboy hat.
polyester canvas with water repellent = mut bueno: won't get as heavy as nonrepellent hats, and it appears to be the toughest stuff around for epic bushwhacking.
Australian style hats are made with a better brim shape than cowboy-style hats, or than my guatemalan straw hat. Less sun in the eye.

You can wear a large backpack with this hat, as the flexible brim bends without notice. This is a BIG positive, as other brimmed hats cause you to push your head forward, making posture bad and backpack to become painful fast.

Ugly baseball caps don't protect. The outback hat here is the best thing going, unless you like caps with skirts, which can be hot. those and hoods prevent you from hearing. I like the sound of bears, birds, and the rest better than solipsistic hoods.
That slightly too-large choice can accommodate a fleece toque underneath, too.

Haven't washed mine yet, but they do get nice and grubby looking with greasy hands, mud, dust. Totally fine, as brand new is too urban.

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. It was a nice looking hat

I liked the hat but it was too small,. There was a problem on the website so I couldn't get the sizing chart so I did have to return it. If it was my size I would have kept it.

Basic outback hat that fits well and as expected. I'm not looking to mahe a statement; just keeping the head and face protected from the elements.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Mesh not UPF :(

Hat fits well but needs some sort of protection for those who are bald from the sun under the mesh
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars. First Purchas from this Supplier

Sure the price was right but the lack of quality was obvious. Certainly no where near my hat purchases of Outback Trading.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Not as packable as I'd hoped
Reviewed by Campchick from Prescott AZ on Thursday, March 19, 2015
This hat is made of a treated, stiff canvas. It's very lightweight. It runs small. I have a small head and ordered a medium and had to send it back as it was so tight. A large fit well (21" head). If you pack it, be very careful of the brim--any wrong bend will alter its shape and render it unattractive. It seems to have an Australian look to it.

About Kakadu Australia

Aussie-inspired Kakadu hats and outerwear have been tackling rugged conditions presented by the Australian Outback - and similarly unforgiving environments - for 25 years. Their modern-day Microwax® cloth mimics the oil-soaked sailcloth of the early 1800’s that kept drovers well protected from the wind and rain. This super tight cotton weave keeps even ocean winds at bay, while the crystalline structure allows perspiration and moisture to escape. Add to that the water-repellent coating and you'll shed water as easily as a duck in a rainstorm. Highly functional Kakadu hats and outerwear are as ruggedly stylish as country they celebrate.
