5.0 out of 5 stars. My problematic feet love them!
Reviewed by Anonymous from California on Monday, March 18, 2013
My feet are a pain -- literally! I have low arches, and if I wear any kind of arch support, they become unbearably painful. They are also painful without arch supports when I am active. Crazy, I know! I bought running shoes at a store that records one's stride and makes calculations to find the "perfect" pair of shoes, and even they didn't get it right (not even close!). I think that I would love snowboarding, but the only time I ever tried, I failed miserably because my rental boots killed my feet. People are often shocked to hear this because snowboarding boots are apparently known to be much less painful than, say, ski boots.

All of that being said, I truly cannot believe how great my feet felt in these hiking boots! Against my better judgment, I wore them for a >10 mile hike right out of the box. We had actually planned on a much shorter hike, but I was more than happy to extend it because my feet felt so great. My right ankle started hurting a tiny bit in the last couple of miles, but nothing unbearable. The pain was of the surface variety, caused by the stiffness of the upper. I'm sure that the boots will soften as I wear them more.

As far as sizing goes, I typically wear a size 9. I wondered if I should order a size 10 in these boots to accommodate foot swelling and hiking socks, but ended up going with a 9.5. I'm glad I did because 9.5 fit perfectly with medium hiking socks. This could be a fluke because I have read in a few places that Keen's sizing isn't consistent. I don't know how accurate that is.

I highly recommend these boots! I don't know what makes them severely hurt some ankles and not others, and as I said, I'm not sure about the consistency of the sizing. All I know is that the pair that I received is wonderful for my problematic feet. They make me want to hike more!

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. I love Keen boots!

Very comfortable and lasted a long time!
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Too small

I bought the boots based on the reviews that said that these boots run big. Unfortunately, I had to exchange them because they were too small/tight. My foot size on the shoe scale is 2.5 Kids/4.5 Women. I bought a size 5. With liners and medium weight hiking socks, my toes hit the top of the boot. Exchanging them for another 1/2 size larger.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Great hiker

Love this hiker. Have spent hours in this boot...good support in the arch and ankle, and have been 100% waterproof to this point. Have rubbed a bit on the inner ball of foot after long hikes. Also wear them as a daily commuter to and from work during nasty WYO winters. Sizing seems just a little big.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Too warm for summer hike!

Having a challenge finding a smaller size 5, I bought those for the fit and comfort. Unfortunately, I went hiking twice in 80F weather and my feet (and socks) were very damp! I suspect that the waterproof membrane is not so breathable and not a wise choice for summer hiking. I am hoping those will work for my upcoming trip in Glacier National Park in September!!

About Keen

Keen shoes have been helping feet find adventure since 2003, and it all began with the signature KEEN.PROTECT toe bumper. It might seem strange to build a footwear company around a feature, but that iconic toe bumper is more than just a style add-on. It’s what allows Keen sandals to hit the trails and provide the best toe protection possible. In fact, Keen was one of the first footwear companies to make closed-toed hiking sandals. Over the years, the product selection has continued to grow and now includes Keen hiking boots, trail shoes, cycling shoes, socks, clothing and bags. The brand is also actively involved in land and water conservation projects in the US, Canada, Europe and Japan.
