Marmot Samantha Jacket - Waterproof (For Women)

I initially ordered an XL and had to return for a L. I'm 5'10, 140lbs and the large fits perfect. Very feminine and fitted jacket. The jacket is just long enough to cover your derriere. Have not yet beed caught in the rain so I am not sure how waterproof it is but it is very well built.

Originally ordered the large because of other reviews saying ran small... ended up with the medium which is perfect for me (5'8", 155#). I can wear a puffy vest or a soft shell jacket underneath and it still zips and fits nicely. Lots of little pockets and is very flattering.

5'4", 128 pounds, 34C, middle-aged girth, and the medium is perfect. I always wear a medium in Marmot and this is true to size. The sleeves go to the end of my thumbs and it is roomy enough to wear an Icebreaker wool hoodie underneath so the medium could fit someone taller/bigger. The fabric is heavy enough to not make too many swishy sounds. The turtle dove color is light and cheery. This jacket kept me totally dry in a 2-hour rain/hailstorm deluge in a stadium when the rain just pounded against my back and bottom. It was long enough to keep me dry while I held an umbrella and looked at other people getting soaked with their waist-length jackets, but not too long as to make me look stumpy. I gave my Gerry fitted jacket to my daughter as it was "too fitted." This is only slightly fitted. I am very pleased.

It was for my daughter and the fit was good. Also knowing the quality of Marmot, I am satisfied. This Samantha jacket is much more stylish than the precip jacket IMO.

I appear to be the size exception of reviewers and there does seem to be some size discrepancies which I think is normal for garments. So, not having tried on multiple jackets I can obviously only review the one I received. I typically wear a 14, sometimes I need a 16 on top. Here is my 2 cents.

STYLE: I was looking for something a little dresser than the typical gore tex style rain jacket (I have owned several over the years) but not as dressy as a trench coat and I think this fit that need. I got the purple, it is not flashy but a nice darker color with a simple plaid pattern. On this one there is a slight A-line effect toward the bottom. I don't mind the uncovered zipper but I do wish you could do the top snap without wearing the hood. I would not consider it to be a medium weight. The fabric is quite light and thin.All in all, I do like the style.

SIZE: It fits alright across my chest but is snug across the hips. (Layers will be a challenge which is very disappointing.) I am petite so the sleeves are 1-2 inches too long and the hem falls just below my mid thigh. It is different but I do like the length. I was a little concerned about sitting in the car since, as someone else noted, it doesn't have a double zipper but it was fine. The hem just kind of rolled up.

I am keeping it because there's not much else out there at a reasonable price that fit my requirements.I do wish the sizing was a little more generous. I hope I am not sorry. I live in New Hampshire so other than summertime it may not be warm enough to wear without something underneath.
