5.0 out of 5 stars. True to size

I ordered the black in a 7.5 & 8 but kept the 8. I often get 7-7.5 sandals, but I am a solid 8 in running shoes and my Keen hiking shoes. A few Merrell size 8’s have been too big, so I wanted to be on the safe side. My toes were crunched in the 7.5; not so much in length but in width. My feet have normal arches & width. Boots without ties often feel too loose on me, and I prefer a shoe to really hug my foot. I’m also quite sensitive to adequate arch support. These boots feel perfect to me so far. I’m wearing them with a mid weight merino wool sock.

  • 2.0 out of 5 stars. runs very tight and small
Reviewed by michelle from Colorado on Friday, February 22, 2019
I wear a 51/2 size shoe in every other Merrell purchase I have made. (5 other pairs of boots or shoes) In other brands sometimes a size 6 is better for me. I read the reviews and ordered a size 6. The boot leather is very light. Trying to get my foot in the boot is a little difficult. It runs very tight across the arch and at the entry point. It is almost as if the zipper isn't low enough. I can not wear socks with them. I'm hoping after I break them in it will be better and more loose.

I love these boots! I wore them to walk my dogs and they were very comfortable. Haven't used them on a rainy day yet.
  • 1.0 out of 5 stars. Vemonter
Reviewed by Vermonter from Vermont on Thursday, January 24, 2019
I live in Northern Vermont. These boots are very comfortable. The zipper is difficult to close. They are not winter boots for our neck of the woods, more fall or late fall. Also they are absolutely NOT waterproof. They leak through the seams around the sole and through the zipper.

    - If they are advertised as a winter waterproof boot (and the description says "all conditions") I give them a 1 for comfort.

    - If they are advertised as a fall (Vermont fall) boot that is not waterproof - I give them a 4 because the zipper is difficult to close.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Right boot great, left boot failed :(
Reviewed by Anonymous from California on Friday, January 18, 2019
I wear a perfect size 7 and the right boot fits perfectly. The left boot's arch was improperly positioned. The arch is not flush to the side of the boot. I was suspicious when the left boot didn't have the same paper packing, I now wonder if someone had the boot before me and also returned it.

All of this is a surprise because Merrell has always been my go-to-boot. I hope Merrell's quality control hasn't gone the way of the dodo. I wanted an exchange, but there are no longer any size 7 black boots. Suck.

About Merrell

The story of Merrell boots all started with a guy named Randy Merrell, who began handcrafting leather hiking boots back in 1981, shortly after graduating from industrial shoemaking school. By the mid-80s, Randy’s boots had already gained critical acclaim before being named “best boots in the world” by Backpacker Magazine. The next decade saw the arrival of new footwear, including the ever-popular Jungle Moc, which helped launch the after-sport category. Today, Merrell hiking boots, running shoes and sneakers are still among the best on the market, always combining the newest technology, innovative designs and outstanding comfort. Whether you hike, run, walk or just appreciate high-quality shoes and boots, we’re confident that you’ll love Merrell shoes.
